The thrust of this conference which is the first of its kind to hold in Lagos Business School in conjunction with Agrafair IRAL is to;
Shift the current narrative from the development of the agribusiness sector to the development of agri-business and agric-value chain sectors. Call the attention of policy makers, agricultural research institutes, technocrats, investors and other stakeholders to the attendant implications of the poor state of the agribusiness sector in Nigeria, the weak linkages of the sector and the implications on the economy.
Challenge the professionals, relevant universities and other institutions researchers and great minds to solving the hidden problems in the agricultural sectors. Draw the interest of local investors, foreign investors and international organizations to the profitability of Nigerian agribusiness space with a view to investing therein.
Provide an avenue for linkages and collaboration between suppliers and buyers along the agric-value chain of the Nigerian agricultural sector, inputs, production, processing, storage, packaging, marketing and exportation, etc. Discuss how to source needed resources, such as land, capital, technology, expertise within appropriate socio-economic variables for different eco-political zones of the country.
Draw a sustainable evidence-based road map for the re-growth and development of the Nigerian agribusiness sectoralong with its accompanying supportive policies, and evolve a strong pillar packed, high-tech agriculture that will support the economy and minimize importation, encourage exportation and generate employment and raise income.
